Whether some may see it as a little tasteless or just a good honest storyline, the life of Eastenders stall wart Frank Butcher came to an end this week with his burial back home in London. He was shipped back from his fictitious home in Spain for a full cockney knees up funeral with the whole horse drawn carriage, black hats, etc.
Diehard fans of the show will know that Mike Reid, the actor who played Frank Butcher, recently passed away at his Spanish hideaway after suffering a heart attack on the golf course. Reid had been in and out of the show for many years and there were rumours that he was set to make another comeback before his death. Frank Butcher was one of those TV characters whom you either loved or you hated and he attracted each emotion in equal quantities!
This week’s show saw Frank’s ex-wives Pat and Peggy squabbling over whom he loved the most and who was his “real wife”, with each one trying to wind up the other. While they resorted to attacking each other at one stage they ended the funeral day as the best of friends, something which they have been for some time, just afraid to admit it.
The last few weeks have seen some exceptional plots on the show and viewer ratings have been sky high for some time as the constant battle with Coronation Street ploughs on. The two shows have been head to head for 20 years and while they have had their ups and downs, many people find time to watch them both. It seems that there are also some more excellent storylines just around the corner with more goings on in the Square. Keep your eyes peeled for our next update when we will be bringing you up to speed with the latest gossip.
