“The Sound of Music” is a satisfying biographical drama that was made in 1965 to an amenable worldwide audience, the exception being New York. Director Robert Wise, authors Howard Lindsay, Russel Crouse and Maria Augusta Trapp, have gone a long way in making this film a theatrical success. Music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II has completed the formula for a musical triumph too. The characters come alive with Julie Andrews as Maria, Christopher Plummer as the ex-naval officer, Eleanor Parker playing the Baroness and Peggy Wood as Mother Superior, Abbess.
With her clumsiness and naughtiness, Maria is a hopeless failure as a nun. So, when a letter arrives from Captain Von Trapp asking for a governess for his seven equally mischievous children, Mother Abbess and the other nuns thankfully send Maria away on the job. Von Trapp is a widower, engaged to a Baroness. Initially, the children rebel against Maria, assuming that she too was like all the other governesses that their father had hired for them earlier. Ultimately, they develop a fondness and affection towards her and accept her as one of them. Their gambols through the lush green hillside to melodious tunes are appealing ear- candy. One of the best parts of the movie is the pleasing puppet show put up by Maria and the kids, amidst hilarious hiccups and glitches that turns out jus right in the end. With Maria, music finally becomes an integral part of the Von Trapp family that once used to be run like the Captain’s ships.
This cheery film has earned five Oscars, another nine awards, including some for its delightful notes and ten nominations. Long after you have seen the movie, “The Sound of Music” echoes in your ears, flooding your heart with sweet warmth.

How I Met Your Mother is an Emmy award winning comedy series that premiered on CBS in 2005 and has been running successfully since. The show revolves around the protagonist Ted Mosby telling his children about the events that led to his meeting their mother. The other important characters include Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin who form a pretty close friends circle.

In the beginning of season 1, Ted is portrayed as a single, 27 year old architect living in New York with his best friend Marshall and Marshall’s longtime girlfriend Lily who drops in time to time. Tired of being single Ted then begins his search for a soul mate. Which Barney disapproves of. Ted meets Robin in a bar and falls head over heels in love with her, but it does not work out. Season 2 shows Ted and Robin getting together and Marshall and Lily breaking up and getting back. In the final episode of season 2 Marshall and Lily get married and Ted and Robin break up yet again.

In season 3 Ted tries to woo his doctor Stella and Barney begins to have feelings for Robin. One thing leads to another and Barney and Robin end up sleeping together. Ted freaks out when he finds out about this and things turn sour between him and Barney.
In the season finale both Ted and Barney meet with road accidents and they patch up.

The 4th season is premiering on September 22nd and we expect that the womanizing, most eligible bachelor, eternally single, relationship loathing Barney Stinson to at last fall in love! And most probably with Robin. Or it could just be another one of Barney’s funny and crazy antics for which he is known and loved for. Ted has proposed to Stella and whether she is the woman he marries is still shrouded in mystery. Which I do not think will happen as that would probably spell the end of the series. Let’s wait and watch the season premiere to see what happens next.

“Roman Holiday” is a dreamy, humorous, $1,500,000 worth picture that hit the screens in 1953. Director and producer William Wyler cast Gregory Peck at the helm as Joe Bradley, Eddie Albert as photographer and introduced Belgium- born Audrey Hepburn as Princess Ann, to the world. This marvelous story was penned byJohn Dighton and author Dalton Trumbo.
The 118 minutes long film is an elegant narration of Princess Ann’s mischievous escapade in Rome. Frustrated with her life that is scheduled down to a minute, Ann gets away from it all one night into the darkness, hidden in a truck. Soon, the tranquilizer that she had been forcibly given takes its toll and she falls asleep on a roadside bench. Along comes Joe Bradley, a dashing American press reporter who does not recognize her as the Princess and takes her to his apartment to keep her safe. The next day he rushes off a tad too late, to interview Princess Ann oblivious that she was sleeping on his couch! After a tiff with his boss and the realization that “Anya Smith” (that was the name she had introduced herself by) was none other than Ann, he lays a wager with his chief that he would get an exclusive on her. The rest of the story deals with how Joe shows Ann the sights of Romania through “accidental” encounters and eventually earns her trust. Tagging along is photographer Irving Radovich who takes pics secretly of Ann enjoying herself for the “special” write-up. Romance blossoms between the lead pair and the movie ends on a note that keeps the audience reflecting on what might have been.
This charming movie has won three Oscars, two Academy Awards and five other awards as well as eleven nominations and the title of the “fourth best love story of all time” on the AFI’s list.

“Hatari!” is a movie made in 1962 by the American director, Howard Hawks. Meaning “danger” in Swahili, this is an adventurous comic venture articulating on John Wayne playing Sean Mercer and his troupe, (consisting of people from different countries), which includes Hardy Krüger as Kurt Muller and Red Buttons as Pockets. Spicing up this drama is a little romance brought in the form of Elsa Martinelli as Anna Maria Dallas D’Allesandro, an attractive wildlife photographer.
The whole movie revolves around Wayne and his gang who ramble in the barren terrain of present Tanzania, to capture animals and sell them to zoos. Throughout the movie the characters give chase in trucks and jeeps with cages, nets, lassos and dope pellets to hunt down animals that are wild and undomesticated. This resulted in a few accidents to the actors, but finally produced a visual treat taking into account the absence of high-end tools, equipment and know-how in the 60’s. What is really mind-blowing is the expertise, deftness, skill, dexterous precision and co-ordination displayed by the actors and technicians as they track down and catch animals in the wilderness of the African plains.
Hatari! has a weak screenplay, as it primarily concentrates on the relation between tribals and the whites and on the effect of the latter’s presence in Africa. But it more than makes up for it with its incredible stunts, cinematography and music. The highlight of this film is the charming Henry Mancini tune, “Baby Elephant Walk” which is remembered even to this day. What’s more is that as the animals would not always “act” when needed, the director got natives to make the animal noises! Hatari!’s formula for success? Wayne+ Red Buttons= One hell of an action packed romantic comedy!

This “dramedy” begins with the death of one of the housewives on Wisteria Lane – Mary Alice Young and her narration of the struggles faced everyday by her friends and neighbors - Susan Mayer, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp and Gabrielle Solis.

Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) plays the perfect housewives striving for more perfection. From her perfectly manicured nails to her perfectly manicured lawns, she is the envy of all her neighbors and her calm and collected approach on the most vital issues is impressive.
Lynette Scavo, played by Lynette Scavo, is just the opposite. Born to be a career woman, she doesn’t know how she ended up at home with four children. She also doesn’t know how to cope or if she will ever be able to cope
Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) is as clumsy as the come. Literally falling in on to the weirdest situations, she is a single mother who has fallen irrevocably in love with her newest neighbor, Mike Delfino (played by James Denton). After her husband leaves her she transforms from an insecure woman into a confident lady – who is still as clumsy as ever
Last but not the least we come to Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) and we can just not fall in love with her character. She is manipulative and conniving and absolutely hilarious. An ex-model used to getting just about everything she wanted, she is now married to the typical husband who seems to appreciate his work more than her.

This is a must watch for both sexes and all age groups and is guaranteed to catch their attention throughout all four seasons.

Prison break seems to draw the attention of the audience more and more everyday .The story revolves around two brothers, one who is being imprisoned for a crime he has not committed and the other a master mind who is using his energies and intelligence for all the right reasons so as to save the skin of his brother.
The creative head behind this show   Paul Schering and producer Adelstein-Parouse have won accolades for their work earlier and theme music  composed by Ramin Djawadialso has been nominated for the most coveted Emmy awards. The show has already completed three seasons and the much awaited fourth season was premiered with a back to back episode on September 1.
The shooting has been done in Chicago and places in and around it but the main location was Joliet Prison. The plot of this mega serial seems to be quite interesting and promises to capture the audiences mind to a great extent. The dutiful brother Michael scofield pretends to be suffering from a type I diabetes so that he could visit the prison doctor who is also the governor’s daughter.
The promising storyline also keeps the audience on the edge of their seats an their eyes glued to the television and that’s when it is important to follow the subplots carefully so as to keep in touch with the original plot of the story. It portrays strong emotions of a determined brother who fights till the end to save his brother and can go to any level to pull him out of the trouble he is in..

The show is produced by ABC studios, Bad Robot Productions and Grass Skirt Productions and is said to be one of the most expensive shows on television. It is also the show with the most expensive pilot episode, costing approximately $10-14 million. The pilot episode was first aired on the ABC network on September 22, 2004.

A commercial passenger jet, Ocean Airlines Flight 815, flying from Sydney to Los Angeles, carrying 342 passengers crashes on one of its routine flights. It leaves 72 survivors, including a dog, on a totally deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific. The survivors are isolated from the rest of the world and have no means of communicating to anyone outside the island. In the opening season, there were 14 major roles including a former Iraqi Republican guard, a troubled surgeon, a con man, and an unlucky lottery winner. The show follows the lives of these survivors and how they work with each other, to barely stay alive.

The cast is made up of Naveen Andrews (as Sayid Jarrah), Emilie de Ravin (as Claire Littleton), Matthew Fox (as Jack Shephard), Jorge Garcia (as Hugo “Hurley” Reyes) and many more.

The series had been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards every year and won it in 2006 for the best drama series. It won 2 Emmy Awards in 2005 for the Outstanding Drama Series and for best director to J.J. Adams for his work in the pilot. The show also bagged three Guild Awards in 2005.

The show completed 4 seasons and the 5th season is scheduled to commence on January, 2009. It has developed a strong fan base in America and has become a part of American popular culture.

Heroes is a sci-fi American TV series created by Tim Kring which premiered on NBC in 2006 and produced by Universal media studios. The plot basically centers around ordinary people all over the globe who discover that they possess super powers and their adaptations with these abilities. It also tells how about these people get connected in some way or the other and the way they work together to avert destruction of humanity. The series has a strong fan following all over the world with around 14 million viewers in the U.S alone. Two seasons have been aired till date. The first season titled as “Genesis” tells about how these people gradually discover that they have powers and it features 23 episodes. The second season titled “Generations” was supposed to be of 24 episodes but due to the WGA writers’ strike only 11 episodes were featured. The second volume introduces new characters who are neither on the good side nor on the bad side. The season Three “Villains” will include 12 episodes from season Two and will deal with new characters having greater powers as compared to the heroes of the first two volumes with a motive to destroy humanity and rule the world. Some of the characters of the first two volumes eventually die and the fate of humanity is still not clear. Season Three will premiere on NBC on September 22, 2008 and it is the highly anticipated volume all over the world. Heroes has been nominated for many awards in the United States as well on an international platform. Kring and the other writers have planned five seasons as of date with the fourth season named as “Fugitives”. The production team of Heroes has launched it`s series content on the Internet with weekly updates regarding media and details of each character with their abilities with many comics and games because of the popularity of the series.

Originally an idea for a feature length film, One Tree Hill, made it to the television screens on the September 23, 2003. The creator, Mark Schwahn, pitched his idea around for quite some time, until he took the advice of Warner Brothers Television Network front man and transformed his movie into a teen television drama.

The name of the soap comes from the song ‘One Tree Hill’ by U2. The creator named the fictitious town in the plot (and later, the name of the serial itself) based on the song because he had been listening to the ‘Joshua Tree’ album, while writing the idea.

Their mutual father, Dan Scott, managed to keep his sons as far apart as he can. During his school days, Dan dated Karen Roe and got her pregnant, who later gave birth to Lucas. He, however, never accepted Lucas as his son. He moved on to college to pursue his basketball scholarship and started dating Deb. He managed to get her pregnant as well. But, he decided to marry Deb and supported her and Nathan. Further drama takes place when the brothers come face to face with each other on and off the court.

With 3.2 million viewers, the series reached an all time high rank of 136 during the 4th season. The series completed 5 seasons successfully, while the 6th season is currently being aired on the CW network on Monday Nights at 9 PM.
