The internet, as always is the gateway to the future. People seem to find solutions to almost everything in this brilliant invention that has revolutionized the way we look at the world. A world, where trips to post offices have reduced, where people shop online, talk online , greet each other online ,socialize, write, publish and become famous online. The recent addition to the things that can be done online is the watching television.
This could very well be the future, considering the efforts that go in to improving the speed and reducing the cost of internet. This might be a boon to small time hobby enthusiasts who want to start a channel of their own. This channel that could cost around $150,000 to start and a $75,000 more for production, when broadcasted over satellite, might not be successful because of the lack of demand.
The answer is the internet TV that contributes to a much larger audience worldwide, at a much lower initial cost. Wired magazine introduced the phrase “the long tail”. It refers to the audience with a “not so popular” interest, but who can be conglomerated over the net.
Internet TV offers infinite selection that makes it popular among the mass, for it sells something that might not be popular and which is harder to find, at the click of the mouse. The ease of production and the presence of internet almost everywhere, make internet TV a very good option for the future.
Internet has already proved that by aiming people with same interests, it can break the barriers of nationality or religion. A global citizen watches the local newscast, has a knack for Japanese Cartoon shows, dances to Samba, collects Egyptian artifacts, and loves travelling, all from his living room, and all from his computer.
This global citizen is our future, and hence there is no doubt about the internet TV becoming the next sensation.
