The task of turning the popular Iron man series from comics to the silver screen was given to Jon Favreau, an American Filmmaker, who until then had not made much of a mark in Hollywood. Favreau, however was not the first choice for directing Iron man. Early rumors link the direction of Iron man being given to Quentin Tarantino, they also suggest that Nick Cassavetes was in talks to direct Iron man until the deal finally went to Jon Favreau.
The plot of Iron man revolves around the arms manufacturer cum millionaire playboy Tony Stark ( Robert Downey Jr.), where our protagonist is at first shrewd about the manufacture of ammunition and how it aids to keep people safe. Later the ill effects of the ammunitions that Stark industries manufacture are witnessed firsthand by its owner Tony Stark who decides then to stop production of his weapons. Tony Stark is captured elsewhere, to avoid delving into further details and unveiling the script, Iron man is formed as a weapon to combat the bad guys. We are shown how Tony Stark manages to create the Iron man suit and master it, through some jaw dropping visuals. True love also knocks on Iron man’s door in the form of his assistant Pepper Potts, aptly played by Gwyneth Paltrow. The main draw of this super hero franchise is the action that Iron man brings to the stage, battling real world crime and also the light heartedness of Iron man’s alter ego, Tony Stark. The movie also contains strong performances by Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard. The movie cost approximately $140 million to make and had a whopping $102 million opening at the US box office. It finally wound up with $317 million at the US box office alone.
With extremely good reviews and standout performances, the movie was a grand success. There are also hints of an Iron man 2/Avengers movie towards the end for its fans to hold their breath.
