Originally an idea for a feature length film, One Tree Hill, made it to the television screens on the September 23, 2003. The creator, Mark Schwahn, pitched his idea around for quite some time, until he took the advice of Warner Brothers Television Network front man and transformed his movie into a teen television drama.

The name of the soap comes from the song ‘One Tree Hill’ by U2. The creator named the fictitious town in the plot (and later, the name of the serial itself) based on the song because he had been listening to the ‘Joshua Tree’ album, while writing the idea.

The cast of the show include actors like Chad Michael Murray (as Lucas Scott), James Lafferty (as Nathan Scott), Hilarie Burton (as Peyton Sawyer), Bethany Joy Galeotti (as Haley James Scott), Sophia Bush (as Brooke Davis), Paul Johansson (as Dan Scott) and Karen Roe (as Moira Kelly).

The plot revolves around two half brothers, Lucas Scott and Nathan Scott, who had no contact whatsoever until they both somehow made it to the famous high school basketball team ‘The Ravens’. Their mutual father, Dan Scott, managed to keep his sons as far apart as he can. During his school days, Dan dated Karen Roe and got her pregnant, who later gave birth to Lucas. He, however, never accepted Lucas as his son. He moved on to college to pursue his basketball scholarship and started dating Deb. He managed to get her pregnant as well. But, he decided to marry Deb and supported her and Nathan. Further drama takes place when the brothers come face to face with each other on and off the court.

With 3.2 million viewers, the series reached an all time high rank of 136 during the 4th season. The series completed 5 seasons successfully, while the 6th season is currently being aired on the CW network on Monday Nights at 9 PM.
