Avatar is an American made animated series, which borrows a lot of its setting, imagery and symbolism from Eastern cultures and combines such elements as martial arts and elemental manipulation into its plot. The series features the main protagonist Aang and his fighting friend as they embark on a quest to save the world from an evil force – Fire Lord and to end the war with the Fire Nation. The story begins one hundred years before the series start, and we learn that Aang finds out that he is the new Avatar.

The responsibility frightens the young Aang and he escapes from home on his lying bison. However a great storm occurs and they crash into the ocean and Aang’s Avatar freezes them in an iceberg. They are awoken one hundred years later by two siblings of the Southern Water Tribe and he learns that there has been an ongoing war with the Fire Nation ever since he had disappeared.

The Fire Nation killed all of the Aang’s people, thus making him the Last Airbender. He realizes that it is now his fate to defeat the Fire Nation and return the balance to the world. As he is the master of Air, he needs to become the master of three other elements: Water, Earth and Fire.
