Just the movie sample is enough to give you a feel of the beautiful story of love, forgiveness and healing that this movie brings to life. Ronnie (Miley Cyrus) is a rebellious teenager still bitter about her parents’ divorce from three years ago. Having been deeply affected by it and the fact that her father (Greg Kinnear), a renowned pianist, subsequently left New York and moved to a beach house on Tybee Island, she remains angry and distant with both parents. When Ronnie’s mother (Kelly Preston) decides to send her and her younger brother (Bobby Coleman) to spend the summer with their father, Ronnie isn’t looking forward to reconnecting with him after three years of not speaking. In spite of her father’s best efforts to get her to warm up, Ronnie is miserable during her first days on the island. Slowly though, she starts to come around and let go of her icy exterior with the help of a local boy Will (Liam Hemsworth), who manages to win her heart. Her dad is let into her world, and the two reconnect and bond over their mutual love of music. The movie trailer is able to capture some of those touching moments that we all love.
