NCIS - Naval Criminal Investigative Service is an American television series featuring a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service conducting criminal investigations involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. This fictional team of investigators is the head law enforcement and counter intelligence team of the Navy and they solve all major criminal offenses which include such serious crimes as murders, bombings and other felonies.

The team is headed by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon). He runs a team of special investigators who include Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) who replaced Caitlin Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander) after the season two. The team is assisted by several medical and forensic experts, recurring characters in the series.

This show was originally aired as a two part episode of JAG and later it became a show on its own. Although the show cold be compared with other police procedural shows, this show can be distinguished by certain comedy aspects, ensemble acting and plots that are character-driven.
