Adventures people rarely find out about take place in this famed museum when it is closed to the public. When the museum of natural history closes down for renovations, the pieces on display are moved into federal storage at another famous museum. The famed Smithsonian is enormous and houses a wide range of items that come to life and bring along with them a huge range of adventures and fun. The fun starts with Ben Stiller’s character Larry steals a security identification card and manages to sneak into the archives of the museum.

Troubles arise when an ancient Egyptian evil pharaoh comes to life through a magical tablet that is being housed in the museum, bringing along with it, dozens of old and new exhibitions to life as well. Larry befriends Amelia Earheart, who comes to life from her plane she used to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, which is being stored in the archives. The two try to get everything back to normal in the museum while Larry also finds time to fall in love with the historical figure.
