Young Bennie has a plan to find his long-long brother Tetro, who was been missing from his life for well over a decade. In order to find his missing sibling he travels to Buenos Aires, Argentina, since his family had migrated from Italy to Argentina earlier. However, since his father had a very successful and fruitful musical career as the conductor of world famous symphonic orchestras, the family moved to New York in order for his father to pursue his career further.

When Bennie finds his long lost brother Tetro in New York, he is not at all what Bennie expected him to be like. Tetro is a depressed and dark poet who is disassociated from the world and Bennie as well.. While staying with Tetro and his girlfriend in New York, the two try to reconnect through exploring all the turbulence and dreadful experiences that followed the family and all of its members throughout their lives.
